Dr. Tringe joined the JGI in 2003 as a postdoctoral fellow in then-Director Eddy Rubin’s group. During her postdoctoral tenure she developed methods for comparative analysis of metagenome data from complex microbial communities. In 2006 she took a research scientist position providing scientific support for the developing portfolio of collaborator metagenome projects, then in 2010 she became head of the Metagenome Program, and from 2015 to 2020 she served as Deputy for User Programs before assuming her current position as Director of the Environmental Genomics and Systems Biology Division at LBNL. Dr. Tringe heads the Microbial Systems Group at JGI, whose work focuses on how microbes interact with plants to affect growth, health and stress resistance as well as how microbes influence greenhouse gas uptake and release in wetlands and agricultural systems.
