The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Joint Genome Institute (JGI) established in 1997, is a national user facility of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab). The JGI consists of 250 researchers and support staff on-site in the new Integrative Genomics Building (IGB). The JGI shares the IGB with staff members from the DOE Systems Biology Knowledgebase (KBase) and the National Microbiome Data Collaborative (NMDC).
