The U.S. Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute is a national user facility of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The JGI consists of around 280 researchers and support staff in the Integrative Genomics Building in Berkeley, California.
Our location at the IGB fosters team science and collaboration with partner organizations such as the DOE Systems Biology Knowledgebase and the National Microbiome Data Collective.

Our genomics tools empower researchers — JGI Users — who look to organisms for new ways to solve important problems. We study species that have evolved to address all kinds of challenges. By studying these species, we're creating opportunities to engineer them to tackle many more.
