The JGI’s data stewardship expertise and infrastructure enable a broad community of scientists and engineers to leverage our data to develop new algorithms, models and tools in support of DOE mission priorities. Data discoverability and accessibility are critical requirements for amplifying the JGI’s impact. Data generated from a single investment will be reused for further science.

Effective July 27, 2026, the JGI will move to a new login service, requiring the use of an ORCID account with two-factor authentication enabled to log in. Check our Help Site for additional information, including a Login Walkthrough and FAQ.

Download plant, algal, fungal and microbial genomes and metagenomes — top-quality genomic data, open to all researchers. Book a session via the appointment calendar for technical help, feedback or a guided walk-through of the new Data Portal.
GOLD is a web resource for comprehensive access to information regarding genome and metagenome sequencing projects, and their associated metadata, around the world.
The IMG/M system serves as a community resource for comparative analysis and annotation of all publicly available genomes from three domains of life, in a uniquely integrated context. IMG/M provides tools for analyzing the functional capability of microbial communities based on their metagenome sequence, in the context of reference isolate genomes included from the IMG/M system.
IMG/PR is a plasmid genome resource featuring the largest collection of plasmids automatically identified from genomes, metagenomes, and metatranscriptomes. It provides rich data such as inferred host taxonomy, conjugation potential, antibiotic resistance genes, and ecosystem information.
The IMG/VR database offers the largest publicly available collection of Uncultivated Viral Genomes, derived from genomes, metagenomes, and metatranscriptomes. It features over 15 million viral genomes and fragments, enriched with functional annotation, taxonomic classification, and microbial host predictions.
The Mycocosm web portal provides data access, visualization, and analysis tools for comparative genomics of fungi. Mycocosm enables users to navigate across sequenced fungal genomes, and to conduct comparative and genome-centric analyses of fungi and community annotation.
Phycocosm is a comprehensive resource hub that provides access to publicly available sequenced algal genomes and genome annotations generated by the JGI and by others. The web portal allows users to navigate these genomes and conduct comparative and genome-centric analyses of algae, while also encouraging community engagement and data exchange.
Phytozome is the JGI's Plant Comparative Genomics portal. Families of related genes representing the modern descendants of ancestral genes are constructed at key phylogenetic nodes. These families allow easy access to clade-specific orthology/paralogy relationships as well as insights into clade-specific novelties and expansions.
The SMC provides complete sequence and annotation data for secondary metabolite biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) across all kingdoms of life. Tools are provided to display annotation data from many common software tools, and from many users. It is also a place where the community can upload new data for use by scientists and the public, and provide programmatic access to all sequence and annotation data and their comments.
The JGI Genome Portal was replaced with the Data Portal and sunset in 2026. The Genome Portal was designed to provide unified access to all JGI genomic databases and analytical tools for all JGI sequencing projects. In 2021, the JGI launched the Data Portal to eventually replace the Genome Portal.
