On July 26, 2023, the JGI celebrated the culmination of the tenth summer of its flagship education program with UC Merced. Originally conceived as a graduate student summer research experience at the JGI, the Genomics Internship Program expanded to include UC Merced undergraduate students. To date, more than 80 UC Merced students have contributed to the research of numerous JGI scientists.

Our interns say their experiences allowed them to: 

  • Learn new skills.
  • Experience industry-level work and coding.
  • Receive mentorship, network and gain connections with lab staff.
  • Increase their technical skills and confidence in their own abilities.
