- B.A. in Biophysics, University of California, Berkeley
Mr. Copeland joined DOE Joint Genome Institute in 2002. Prior to that he worked as an Engineer developing software and lab automation at Norgren Systems. Previously, he worked for 10 years on the Human Genome Project at at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory where he managed cosmid DNA isolation in support of chromosome 19 mapping and sequencing. While at LLNL he developed software and automation for DNA isolation, high density colony arraying, and near infra-red fluorescence based DNA hybridization of high density library arrays. He also worked on projects to develop high throughput fluorescent DNA sequencing in microchannel arrays. While at JGI, he has worked as a software developer and led the QC, QA, QA/QC, Genome Assembly and Analysis teams.
