CalTeach is a program for undergraduate majors interested in developing a deep understanding of STEM teaching & learning. Their coursework focuses on STEM pedagogy, educational theory and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, with concurrent field work in local classrooms and tutoring centers. Cal Teach offers a minor in Science and Math Education, as well as a unique opportunity to complete a California K-12 science or math teaching credential as an undergraduate simultaneously with their undergraduate degree.

Our interns say their experiences allowed them to: 

  • Learn new skills.
  • Experience industry-level work and coding.
  • Receive mentorship, network and gain connections with lab staff.
  • Increase their technical skills and confidence in their own abilities.

Partnering with CalTeach – Training the Next Generation STEM Workforce
In 2021, the JGI began partnering with CalTeach to explore opportunities for highlighting JGI data portals as potentially teachable assets with participating undergraduate STEM majors interested in exploring a career in education.
