Advanced Analysis Lead

Dr. Sneddon is the Advanced Analysis Group Lead in the Data Science and Informatics Department at the Joint Genome Institute. His team of engineers and scientists builds and operates the data and compute platforms and bioinformatics annotation pipelines that support JGI’s portals, tools, and the DOE’s emerging AI-enabled capabilities for science.

Dr. Sneddon is an accomplished leader in data, software, compute, and AI for large-scale genomics and lab informatics. Prior to joining JGI in late 2025, he served as Director of Scientific Computing at Predicine, an NGS-based clinical cancer diagnostics company, where he led the Production Informatics team in delivering validated bioinformatics pipelines and a laboratory information management (LIMS) system. He previously led the NGS Software team and metagenomic data platform at Zymergen, a synthetic biology company that went public and was later acquired by Ginkgo Bioworks. Earlier in his career, he was a core software engineer on the early KBase team at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Mike earned his PhD in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics from Yale University.
