The soybean is now the first legume species to have its complete genome sequence published, an achievement which could improve its potential as a biofuel feedstock.
A research team made up of 18 institutions which included the United States Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute, the Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service, Purdue University and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte published the sequence and its analysis in the January 14 edition of the journal Nature.
