The annual JGI Holiday Food Drive of 2014 brought nearly a ton of food to the the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano. Over half of the total came from the family of software developer Bobby Otillar, who pledged to match the amount of food donated by fellow JGIers pound-for-pound for the third year in a row.
This year, Otillar issued a challenge to his colleagues. He and his family pledged a pound-for-pound match up to the amount JGI donated in 2013; once that amount was exceeded, they would then donate 2 lbs of food for every 1 lb donated.
Five barrels of food later, a total of 713 lbs of food lbs was collected during the JGI Holiday Food Drive. As a result of the challenge, the Otillar family donated 1,058 lbs of food, bringing the JGI’s total contribution to the Food Bank this year to 1,771 lbs.
Bobby Otillar noted that the family’s extra donation this year was made possible by Fenwick & West, where his wife Antonia Segueira recently made partner after a decade of hard work.
