Dan: Hi, I’m Dan Udwary. I’m a chemist, and I do research to try to understand natural products, and how living organisms do the amazing chemistry that makes life diverse and unique. I’ve been a professor, I’ve worked in the biotech industry, and now I work at the Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute. I love my work, I love this field, and I’ve met a ton of super cool scientists along the way. Now, I want to tell you about them. So, join me and my co-host, Alison Takemura.
Alison: Hey Dan!
Dan: She’s my colleague at JGI, and she’s going to learn about natural products, maybe along with you! We’ll chat about the science…
Alison (from clip): Tell me, why should I even care about secondary metabolites?
Dan (from clip): There are more bacteria, usually, in our mouths, and certainly in our guts, than there are people on the planet. We’re definitely outnumbered.
Dan: And we’ll talk to some of the most AMAZING scientists I know, about what they do.
Dan (from clip): You’re getting on a boat?
Brad Moore (from clip): We’re getting on a boat. And we’re going to play with robots.
Nancy Keller (from clip): I love fungi! OK? This doesn’t even have anything to do with natural products, necessarily.
Ben Shen (from clip): These molecules are so toxic. And so people have been thinking about how to deliver these molecules to a specific disease cell.
Dan: So, check it out. Natural Prodcast. Coming soon, on Apple, Google, Spotify, and wherever you get your podcasts.
Brad Moore (from clip): You’re doing a pRodcast!
