Why Sequence Algae from Acidic Waters?

Strains of green algae from isolated acidic waters are being sequenced to understand how they adapt to variable levels of carbon dioxide, as well as to get a better sense of their role in the carbon cycle, and specifically how they can fix carbon under these conditions under these conditions.
