The Operations Department sees to it that the JGI has the best possible facilities and support, ensuring that its operations are conducted in accordance with the requirements of its partner laboratories. A major part of the department’s mission is optimizing the physical layout of the facility. To that end, Operations is currently working toward linearizing the sequencing space, obtaining more office space, and improving the JGI’s computational facilities. Another major initiative is to develop accurate and efficient financial protocols and business systems.
Administrative Services handles a variety of tasks, from arranging travel and jamborees to facilitating performance appraisals. The group ensures that activities at the JGI are carried out in accordance with the administrative policies and procedures of both Lawrence Berkeley and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories.
This group sees to the day-to-day needs of the JGI facilities. Members assist with employee and instrument moves and deal with contractor modifications to the JGI buildings.
Finance & Materials
This group consists of two sections. Finance handles cost accounting and budgeting, whereas Materials Procurement deals with buying and tracking property, including shipping and receiving.
Working with the Human Resources departments at Lawrence Berkeley and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, the JGI’s Human Resources Group fulfills the institute’s staffing needs.
The group supports all the instrumentation needs of the JGI laboratory staff. Ranging from instrument specification & selection, installation, programming, modification & troubleshooting working closely with vendors as necessary. Engineering design & project management plus laboratory space planning.
